A new concept is born within the Italian art scene : “StoryFrame – Photo Stories Illustrated
It is the union of six visual arts: photography, cinema, story, comics, painting, and last but not least, the digital post-production. Today they are combined to satisfy the thirst for the ever more demanding public.
Leonardo Baldini presents a series of books dedicated to the expression of his particular photographic technique through fantastic stories where light and color are key elements in images designed with the utmost care in their rhythm and balance.
The work is a fantasy story narrated through a series of photographic frames; initially as the progression of the frames, but also as singular picture frames within which are enclosed images, like detailed little paintings, wherein the reader can observe the varied elements of the story; the emotions, the characters and the complexity of the implementation.
The techniques used to illustrate these stories are the result of photography by an artist that has experience in painting, graphic art and comic illustration. In the photography flows passion for both cinema and the cinematographic use of light; all this is finished with a capacity of digital elaboration that goes beyond the usual convention, in fact, the final images are the result of a post-production that is not an end in itself, but closely follows the shooting and is based on a theory in which the shots become “preparatory sketches” on which to lay his graphic pen, without ever resorting to prepackaged tricks.
The editing of the tables is then, in true comic style, based on an accurate storyboard created before the shooting and in line with the predetermined story. The use of light and color is conceived as a narrative element, a perfect ally fighting the impossibility of using scores, movements and words.
